Double Tap

This week is the mid season finale of one of the best shows on TV  “The Walking Dead”.    If you haven’t seen or heard of this show then you are missing out.  The show is based on the series of the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman.  While the show is based on the series of books the show itself doesn’t follow them exactly.

The story is about the survivors of a zombie apocalypse traveling around Georgia trying find safety and shelter.  They do run into other survivors and either have conflict or help each other.  The show is filled with drama and action and there are zombies in every episode.

The special effects makeup for the zombies is better than some movies.  Now I'm not saying that all of the special effects are amazing, but overall they are pretty good for a TV show.  Since this show is on cable they can get away with some more violence and blood than if this show was on network TV.

The story telling is amazing as well.  I think that this is one of the best written shows on TV.  Each season follows a set story arc with each episode adding to the overall story.  Which most TV shows don’t do very well.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC on Sunday at 7 pm.

Even Gods Need A Hero

The Immortals came out two weeks ago and has some good and bad reviews.  I saw it and liked it.  It wasn’t epic or anything, but it was definitly worth seeing.  The thing that made me want to see it was that it was based on greek myths and some of the producers of “300” worked on the film.  I thought if it was anything like “300” then it should be pretty good.

The stars of the movie are Henry Cavill (who is going to be the new Superman), Mickey Rourke (Ironman 2), and Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire).  Most of the acting was pretty good, but there was story holes that didn’t make to much sense.  The thing that bugged me the most was the amount of gods they had throughout the movie, then at the end there were hundreds of them.

The special effects were really good.  The fight scenes were done well and some reminded me of “300”.   The major god fight scene was probably my favorite of the movie. The style of the movie reflected the directors other films.  Which isn’t a bad thing. but he definitly has his own unique style.

I would give this movie 3 out of 5.  There is a synopsis from IMDB.com below.

Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king's hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man's conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion...until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders-including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff)-one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.

You Were Killed By A Vehicle

So this tuesday one of the greatest first person
shooter video games ever made is coming out with an anniversary edition.  Halo: Combat Evolved is 10 years old and one of the first games to come out on the XBox.  Halo reinvented the first person shooter for console gaming.

Without Halo games like Battlefield and Call of Duty would probably wouldn’t be as popular on consoles.  First person shooters have always been very popular on PC’s, but Halo was a pioneer on the console side, but what made this game so popular is the multi-player.

You could have up to 16 of your friends playing at the same time by being connected to a router.  You can also attribute the online multi-player gaming to Halo.  The original had online gaming before XBox Live even existed.  You could play through something called XB Connect, which sucked and took for ever to find a game.

Now the anniversary edition is the same game just using a different engine, which puts the game into HD.  Now the engine means how the game works, colors and textures.  With the new engine everything looks more realistic.

I know that some people don’t like video games, but this game is going to be awesome.  If any of you are going to play this then get ready for some long hours of being shot in the face and being T-Bagged by 12 year olds.

Ride Hard and Carry a Big Stick

So I have had some comments asking about my job or wanting more information.  I work for a longboard skate board company.  The company is Kahuna Creations, it was started in Ogden, UT.  The style of the company is Hawaiian.  None of the boards have grip tape.  They all have beach and lava sand, which allows us to put the graphic on top instead of the bottom.  The boards start at 38 inches and go up to 57 inches.  The size depends on what and how you like to ride.

The company is also is the innovator of land paddling with a product called the Big Stick.  It is like stand up paddle surfing, but on a longboard.  The owner came up with it after have to kick push 10 miles after his car broke down.  There have been many people who didn’t like just longboarding, but with the Big Stick they love it now.

The invention of the Big Stick has opened the company up to all kinds of people.  Some of them are as you as 4 years old all the way up to 60 years old.  They have had some schools buy the products and use them in P.E. classes.

This is a great company to work for and they have great high quality products.  Please view the video to see what Im talking about.  Well I hope this has peaked some of your interest in longboarding or at least answered some of your questions.

BURN IT

The new prequel

John Carpenters The Thing (1982)
I recently watched the new “The Thing”, which is a prequel to John Carpenters “The Thing”(1982).  If you have ever watched John Carpenters “The Thing”, then you know that it is a great movie in the horror genera.  If you haven’t seen it then you should really see it.

In the original movie they do go to the base that the alien came from so they see some of the effects that the alien had.  So the original had some elements that had to be in the new prequel.  Now that I’ve talked about that let’s get to the review.

I really liked this movie.  The story was very similar to the original, but with a few more details.  In the prequel you get to see more of the actual alien and the spaceship, so you do get more back story.  There are some subtitles, because the prequel happens at a Norwigen base in Antarctica.

The special affects are obviously way better than the original.  The effects on the spaceship are amazing.  The alien effects are amazing as well, since there was no real reference in the original.

I don’t want to give any of the goodness away, so Im being vague about the movie.  I give this movie 4 stars.

The following is the synopsis of the original and the new “The Thing” that I got off IMDb.com.

The original
An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realises that an alien life-form with the ability to take over other bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over.

The new prequel
At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. While Dr. Halvorson keeps to his research, Kate partners with Sam Carter, a helicopter pilot, to pursue the alien life form.

Go see both of these movies.

Freeze She's Looking

I recently watched Your Highness.  A film starring Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman, and Zooey Deschanel.  This is a stoner movie set in a fantasy world.  The story and plot are not all that impressive, but what makes this movie hilarious is the way the actors interact with each other.  Also the special effects are amazing for type of  movie this is.

The stoner part of the movie is Danny McBride’s character likes to smoke weed and do as little work as possible.  While James Franco’s character is the hero of the land and loved by all.  Each brother envy’s the others life and wishes to be more like the other.

The special effects are awesome.  The parts with the magic, minotar, and the old wise man are the best parts.  The thought and detail they put into the special effects is awesome.

Here is a synopsis of the movie I got off imd.com .

Throughout history, tales of chivalry have burnished the legends of brave, handsome knights who rescue fair damsels, slay dragons and conquer evil. But behind many a hero is a good-for-nothing younger brother trying just to stay out of the way of those dragons, evil and trouble in general. As two princes on a daring mission to save their land, they must rescue the heir apparent's fiancée before their kingdom is destroyed. Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he's settled for a life of wizard's weed, hard booze and easy maidens. But when Fabious' bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off... RYNO: The Beginning

Welcome to my new blog.  As this is my first post I will tell you about what you will read on my blog and some information about me.  The focus on my blog will be my life and the things that I am interested in.  I will post some stuff on the hobbies that I enjoy and some information that I find interesting.

Well as you might have guessed that my name is RYNO.  I am 27 years old and am currently getting my degree in web development.  I have lived in Utah my entire life, but I have traveled all around the U.S. and gone to Mexico.  Some of my favorite hobbies are rock climbing, skiing, longboarding,  watching movies, and photography.

I am a warehouse / shipping manager for a longboard company (Kahuna Creations).  So I build, ship, and ride longboards all day.  This is a great job to get me through college, because they work with my school schedule.

I watch a lot of movies and I will post my reviews and opinions on the movies I have seen.  Some of the movies I watch are Asian with subtitles and a lot of them will be big U.S. movies.  So be prepared to read about the things that I watch.

I will try not to get to technical in my posts, but as I am into technology there will be some technical words.

Well I hope that you enjoy reading my blog.
